According to ancient beliefs, true dreams and prophecies pass into our world through a gate of polished horn, while false visions and fantasies have traditionally been delivered to mankind through a gate of sawn ivory.
In keeping with those beliefs, everything posted on The Gate of Ivory will be based on an actual dream had by either the site creator or a contributor. However, the "false" dreams related here may be lightly embellished or extended into longer stories.
Generally, a simple dream report will bear the tag "Vision," while an "Imagining" will denote the addition of purely fictional elements by the author. Occasionally, a discussion on the nature or workings of dreams will find its way into a post, and will be tagged "Musing." And sometimes an "Assignment" in italic text will be included along with a dream, indicating that the author wants to pose a question or challenge to the readers. Beyond that, we will let our sleeping minds be our guides.
